Growing up in Central West NSW I enjoyed the fun of shearing time on our farm. The shearing shed was the most exciting place to be with its hive of activity as fully fleeced sheep came in and naked sheep went out. In this painting I’ve tried to capture some of that activity. We never had “slackers” in the team but I thought it would be fun to put a shearer having a bit of a kip during his break time.
Dad was always a bit wary of us girls spending too much time in the shed just in case we learned new words that the shearers often used to describe the more stubborn sheep. This painting was very enjoyable to paint as I journeyed down memory lane back to the rolling hills of home and the shed that was such a great part of my childhood.
